We like medicine. We also like explaining it clearly.

You should leave an appointment knowing what we found, what we recommend, and how urgently it actually needs to happen.

Dr. Jennifer Schmidt holding a black cat

Dr. Jennifer Schmidt

Owner & veterinarian

Dr. Schmidt graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. She began her career in the St. Louis area, working in animal shelters and performing high-volume, low-cost spay and neuter surgeries before transitioning into private practice. She returned to her home state of Wisconsin in 2017.

As preventive veterinary care became increasingly expensive and more practices were acquired by large corporations, Dr. Schmidt found herself drawn back to the values that started her career. In 2026, she proudly purchased Paws & Co. from Dr. Mau with a simple goal: to continue providing high-quality, compassionate veterinary care that remains affordable for local families.

Dr. Schmidt believes that preventive care is one of the best investments pet owners can make. Her mission is to help pets live longer, healthier, happier lives by making routine veterinary care accessible and emphasizing education, prevention, and strong relationships with clients.

Dr. Schmidt and her husband have two daughters, who keep them humble and occasionally exhausted. Their household also includes two cats, Cassia and Zinnia, a three-legged Boston Terrier named Pepper Debra, and two rats, Evie and Ellie.

Zinnia is remarkably chill except for her unwavering love of carbohydrates and will happily sample any bread left unattended on the counter. Cassia is a devoted shoulder cat who insists that every drinking glass is actually communal property. Pepper, meanwhile, has two brain cells: one is dedicated entirely to anxiety about walking on wood floors, and the other is devoted to the “wait” command.

When she’s not at the clinic, Dr. Schmidt enjoys spending time with her family, running, biking, and riding horses. She is currently working on convincing her husband that buying a horse is a perfectly reasonable idea, even if he and the entirety of mankind insist they’re money pits.

Her professional interests include dentistry, dermatology, feline medicine, and soft tissue surgery.

Dr. Christopher Mau

Dr. Christopher Mau

Veterinarian & founder

Dr. Mau earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. His background includes emergency medicine and hospital ownership.

Dr. Mau and his wife, Lisa, founded Paws & Co in 2012, beginning with mobile vaccine clinics and house calls. In 2014, they opened the Green Bay clinic and expanded its services while maintaining the original focus on high-quality care at affordable prices.

That mission deserves more than a passing sentence. For more than a decade, Dr. Mau built this practice around the belief that local families should be able to access high-quality veterinary care without routine care becoming financially out of reach. It is a generous mission—and not always an easy model to maintain. We are incredibly grateful for the years he devoted to building Paws & Co, and for trusting us to carry that mission forward.

Following the clinic’s ownership transition in 2026, Dr. Mau remains part of the veterinary team and continues caring for Paws & Co patients.

The rest of the team

The people who make all of this possible.

AM

Amanda

Veterinary technician

Amanda is infinitely patient and exceptionally skilled—not only at blood draws and technical care, but at talking with clients about medical issues and helping pets through low-stress handling, despite the fast pace of our clinic.

Why she’s awesome: Amanda combines the technical skill we rely on with the patience pets and people need. She can keep a nervous patient calmer, explain a medical plan without making it sound terrifying, and keep moving when the clinic is busy—which is basically always.

Her dog, Feta, does agility, and Amanda also has plenty of cats. Shhh… we won’t count them all.

CO

Cole

Veterinary assistant

Cole was a friendly face in reception for quite a while, but now we’ve stolen him for the back. He stays busy helping with restraint, patient care, and procedures.

Why he’s awesome: Cole is super calm—and great with pets. That steadiness helps make restraint safer and less stressful, especially when a patient is nervous. His time at the front desk also means he understands the entire visit, not just what happens behind the treatment-room door.

BE

Becky

Receptionist

Becky is one of the friendly faces up front: greeting clients, sharing stories, answering phones, and keeping the day moving.

Why she’s awesome: Becky helps people feel welcome while keeping track of the dozens of details flying at the front desk. She brings warmth, humor, and dog-training knowledge to a job that requires all three—and a truly heroic ability to answer the phone again.

She has two dogs and a new addition, a kitty named Poppy. She also does dog training.

KA

Karley

Receptionist

Karley is one of the other faces who makes all of this possible through her skill at communicating with clients and helping people navigate what their pets need.

Why she’s awesome: Clear, kind communication is what keeps a veterinary clinic from becoming complete chaos. Karley helps clients know what happens next, makes sure questions reach the right person, and keeps countless moving pieces headed in the same direction.

She is a horse girly and has an adorable Frenchie named Rambo.

JO

Joel

Practice manager

Joel is our practice manager and often the person helping when a client question, concern, or unusual situation needs more than a quick answer. He listens, explains what we can do, and works to find a fair and practical path forward while keeping the pet’s needs at the center of the conversation.

What clients can expect from Joel: He will listen, take your concern seriously, and help figure out what needs to happen next. He is exceptionally empathetic and considerate, and he is willing to own it when we get something wrong. He is also appropriately firm when a boundary protects a patient, client, or member of our team. Even when he cannot give you the answer you hoped for, he will be honest, respectful, and clear about why.

He is also a pastor at Rescued Ministries and recently got married. Between five boys and a stepdaughter, he is BUSY.

AU

Autumn

Veterinary assistant

Autumn recently went back to college—get it, girl!—so she isn’t around the clinic as much these days. She hopes to pursue veterinary medicine as a career.

Why she’s awesome: Going back to school while continuing to work toward a career in veterinary medicine takes ambition. We are proud of her, happy to cheer her on, and lucky to have her whenever her school schedule allows.

You are allowed to ask why.

Veterinary recommendations should not feel like mysterious instructions handed down from the mountain. Ask questions. We will answer them.
